Helping more donors find the Fatema Foundation
Market research, a website review, and whether SEO, AEO and GEO make sense for attracting individual and corporate donors
Prepared for Ali Khan, Chair

The short answer
Yes — SEO, AEO and GEO make sense for the Fatema Foundation, but only once the website gives search engines and AI assistants something to find and trust.
£1.5–2.2bn
given to charity by British Muslims every year — more than four times the average of non-religious donors
55%
of UK donors prefer to give through a charity’s own website rather than a fundraising platform
1
page on fatemafoundation.co.uk that Google can index today — the whole site is a single scrolling page

Where the website stands today
A good donation form on a site that cannot be found
One page, one URL
The sitemap lists a single URL and every menu item jumps to an anchor on the same page. There is nothing to rank for beyond the charity’s own name.
Dead links in the footer
About Us, Contact, Volunteer, Fundraise, Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions all point nowhere — exactly the pages donors and companies look for.
Trust signals missing
The charity number (1213106) appears nowhere on the site, and the Charity Commission record lists no website. No trustees, accounts, policies or address are shown.
Thin metadata and imagery
The page title is the bare domain name, there is no meta description, the logo file doubles as the hero image, and the UK section uses a Bangladesh water-project photo.
What already works
Stripe donation form with one-off and monthly giving, a Zakat flag, a proper Gift Aid declaration, a 100% donation policy and concrete £5 / £25 / £50 / £100 impact lines.
A clear story to build on
Three pillars (food, clean water, shelter), two countries, named projects on YouTube, and active Instagram and TikTok accounts — the raw material for a real site.

What this means in practice
Today the Foundation is effectively invisible to anyone who doesn’t already know it
Searching the domain name
A web search for “fatemafoundation.co.uk” returns the Charity Commission entry and lookalike charities — not the website itself.
Searching the cause
“Zakat for Bangladesh”, “clean water charity Bangladesh” or “food parcels Redbridge” cannot surface a page that does not exist. One page cannot rank for dozens of intents.
Asking an AI assistant
ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews lean on consistent facts across a charity’s site, the regulator’s register and directories. The register currently shows no website at all.
The good news: this is a blank canvas, not a penalty. A site registered in 2025 with no history can be rebuilt and indexed properly within weeks.

The UK giving market
Fewer people give, but those who do give deliberately — and trust decides who gets the gift
£14bn
donated by the British public in 2025, down almost 10% from £15.4bn in 2024
55%
of people gave last year, down from 69% in 2016 — about six million fewer donors
73%
of UK adults donated in the past three months and 74% intend to give next quarter
75%
report moderate to high trust in charities — the most trusted institution measured
78% of donors give for an emotional reason such as caring about the cause, and 53% want to be part of something bigger. Emotion starts the gift; evidence and trust finish it.

The Foundation’s core donor base
British Muslims are the UK’s most generous donors
£1.48–2.22bn
given to charity by British Muslims each year (Blue State, UK Giving Behaviours Tracker 2024)
£708
average annual contribution per Muslim donor — more than four times the figure for non-religious donors
£200m+
donated during Ramadan alone, when Zakat and Sadaqah decisions are made in a four-week window
27% vs 12%
British Muslims who plan to give more in the year ahead, against the general public (MCF 2023)
Why this matters now
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on 8 February — about 14 weeks from today.
Zakat is obligatory and donors actively research where to send it. A charity with a 100% donation policy and a clear Zakat page is exactly what they are looking for — if they can find it.

Demand is searchable
Zakat and Ramadan searches run to hundreds of thousands a month in the UK
| UK Zakat & Ramadan keyword set (one tracked domain) | Figure | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Keywords tracked | 289 | Q3 2026 |
| Combined UK searches per month | 588,000 | all keywords |
| Searches where a Google AI Overview appears | 587,700 | almost 100% |
| “ramadan 2027” | 18,100 / mo | rising into Feb |
| “zakat” | 12,100 / mo | year-round |
Figures are from a public AI-visibility snapshot of a single Zakat charity’s UK keyword footprint; they indicate scale, not a full market count.
The answer space is open
The tracked domain is a US Zakat charity, yet it is named in 89% of UK AI Overview answers and 69% of ChatGPT answers on these terms. No UK charity owns this space.
Long tail beats head terms
The Foundation will not outrank Islamic Relief for “zakat”. It can own “zakat for Bangladesh”, “100% donation policy charity” and Redbridge food-support queries.

How donors find charities
Donors arrive with a cause, not a charity name
80%
of 22,000 queries to an AI charity-search tool were cause-based rather than naming a charity. Its users donated at twice the rate.
55%
of UK donors prefer giving directly on a charity’s website; only 13% favour consumer giving platforms such as JustGiving.
69%
of donors prefer to support local organisations, yet more than half gave their last gift to a national one — the ones that are easy to find.
5×
smaller: donors guided by a discovery tool gave to organisations with about five times smaller assets and were 79% more likely to give locally. Same amounts, different recipients.
The charity that answers “where should my Zakat go?” or “who feeds families in Redbridge?” wins the gift. Discoverability moves money from large national charities to small local ones.

The AI shift
Search is becoming answers. Being cited in the answer is the new first page.
−61%
organic click-through rate on informational Google searches that show an AI Overview, June 2024 to September 2025
−35%
organic search traffic across 24 non-profit websites in the first ten months of 2025 versus the year before
+35%
more organic clicks for brands that are cited inside the AI Overview than for brands that are not
~40%
of searches now run through generative platforms like ChatGPT or AI overviews on search engines, by one fundraising consultancy’s estimate
~100
charities per cause area that AI recommendations cluster around — a “herding effect” toward large, well-documented organisations
What gets a small charity in
The same mission, programme and outcome facts on the website, the Charity Commission register and directories; structured data; plain language; third-party mentions.

What businesses look for in 2026
- Local impact where their staff, customers and offices are
- Evidence of outcomes — data, stories and clear reporting
- Employee engagement: volunteering days and fundraising challenges
- Shared values and a multi-year relationship, not a one-off cheque
- Skills and expertise counted as a contribution, not only money

Competitive landscape
Own the specific ground, not the head terms
Who already ranks for “donate to Bangladesh”
Islamic Relief UK, Muslim Hands, Human Appeal, Orphans in Need, Human Relief Foundation, One Ummah and Global Helping Hands all run dedicated Bangladesh pages, flood appeals and Zakat hubs with years of content, press and backlinks behind them.
Muslim Hands alone raised nearly £10.4m in Ramadan 2025, £6.5m of it Zakat. These are the organisations AI assistants currently name.
Where the Fatema Foundation can win
- 100% donation policy — a clear, searchable promise that large charities cannot make
- Two communities, one story — Bangladesh projects and East London food support, with Wanstead as home
- Named, visible projects — a water well, a village road: small enough to show exactly where £25 went
- Founder-led and new — transparency and direct access that corporates and local donors value
- Long-tail and local search — Zakat for Bangladesh, 100% Zakat policy, Redbridge food parcels, Gift Aid on Zakat

The decision
Does SEO, AEO and GEO make sense for the Foundation?
| Discipline | What it means here | Verdict | Condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEO | Ranking in Google for what donors type: Zakat for Bangladesh, food support in Redbridge | Yes | Needs separate, well-structured pages. Target long-tail and local terms, not national head terms. |
| AEO Answer engines | Being the source Google’s AI Overviews and snippets quote for a question | Yes — highest leverage | Plain-language FAQs, structured data, and the same facts on the Charity Commission register. |
| GEO Generative engines | Being named when someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini where to give Zakat | Yes, with patience | AI models favour large, well-documented charities. Needs directories, local press and time — expect 6–12 months. |
Recommendation: proceed, in sequence — rebuild the website first, run a Ramadan 2027 pilot on top of it, then follow a 12-month roadmap. The rebuild is a precondition, not an optional extra.

The approach
Three layers, built in order
Layer 1 · Foundation
A real website
- Multi-page site: About, Trustees, Contact, Policies
- Charity number 1213106 and register link on every page
- Programme pages: Food, Water, Shelter, UK support
- Faster, mobile-first, with proper titles, descriptions and alt text
- Donation flow kept — Stripe, Zakat flag, Gift Aid, monthly
- Analytics and Search Console set up
Layer 2 · Search (SEO)
Pages that answer donor questions
- Zakat hub with a calculator and a 100% policy explainer
- Ramadan 2027 hub, live by mid-January
- Project pages: water well, village road, each with cost and photos
- Redbridge and East London food-support pages
- Gift Aid and “how your £25 is spent” explainers
- Google Business Profile for the Wanstead address
Layer 3 · Answers & AI (AEO + GEO)
Being the trusted answer
- FAQ pages with structured data: Zakat eligibility, where funds go
- Organisation schema: name, number, address, programmes
- Same facts on the Charity Commission entry and in charity directories
- Local press, mosque and community-centre partner links
- YouTube descriptions and social bios aligned to the site
- Monthly checks of what ChatGPT, Gemini and Google say about the Foundation

What success looks like
Measured in donations, not just rankings
| Measure | Today | End of pilot (Mar 2027) | 12 months (Oct 2027) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pages Google can index | 1 | 25+ | 40+ incl. project reports |
| Search terms on page one | Brand name only | 15 long-tail / local terms | 60+ terms; top 3 for brand |
| Named in AI answers (monthly check) | Not named | Redbridge and 100%-policy queries | 5+ Zakat / Bangladesh queries |
| Organic visitors and donations | Unknown — no analytics | Baseline set; first Zakat gifts tracked | Targets set from pilot baseline |
| Corporate enquiries via the site | No page exists | Partnerships page live | First partnership talks |
Pilot targets are proposals to agree together at kick-off; 12-month targets are set from the pilot’s real baseline rather than guessed now.

Honest caveats
What could slow this down, and how we handle it
| Risk | How we handle it |
|---|---|
| The charity is new (registered April 2025) with no published accounts yet; AI models and companies lean on third-party records | Publish trustees, policies and project costs now; file the first accounts as early as allowed; get listed in charity directories |
| Organic results take months and Ramadan 2027 is 14 weeks away | Prioritise the Zakat and Ramadan pages; use the existing social following to send early traffic while rankings build |
| National charities dominate the broad terms and AI recommendations cluster around them | Compete on long-tail, local and 100%-policy questions; measure AI mentions on those, not on “best zakat charity” |
| AI visibility cannot be guaranteed or bought | Treat GEO as a 12-month outcome of doing SEO and AEO well, and report it transparently each month |
| Content depends on the Foundation’s time: stories, photos, costs, Bangladesh updates | One short monthly call plus a shared photo folder; we write, you approve |

Sixpm delivers

- Structured data, directories, register update
- Analytics, Search Console, monthly AI-visibility report
- Unlimited change requests during the engagement
The Foundation provides
- Access to the domain, hosting, Stripe and social accounts
- Trustee bios, policies, project costs and photos
- Bangladesh and UK stories as they happen
- One 30-minute call a month and quick approvals
